Adventure's Fitness Journey 7/5/13

Some changes are happening with my fitness journey and some small achievements have been made.

Achievements:

On July 4th I jogged/walked a 5k.  My time was 40 minutes and 11 seconds, while not great it is a big improvement over my last race pace.  In the first race I did this year I ran a 14 minute 25 second mile pace, and this race I did a 12 minute 54 second pace for an improvement of 1 minute 31 seconds per mile.  I could have finished the July 4th 5k in the high 38/low 39 minute range but I choose to walk near the end of race with my future cousin-in-law who was having some leg pains.  I walked with her instead of my alternating run/walk pacing at that late stage of the race.  We did finish strong and ran the last 1/3rd of a mile. My legs are not sore today unlike after my first race.  I have decided other than the Warrior Dash on August 3rd, I am done with racing till I loss more wight.  I feel like my cardio is in a good place and getting better but my body wasn't built to carry this weight and do this type of activity.

I have been lifting regularly and doing cardio training at the gym on average of 4 times a week.  I have seen improvements in strength and endurance but not enough to warrant an ability score increase.

Changes:

I am now using Myfitnesspal to track my calories.  I am still trying to eat using the Paleo diet but I am tracking my intake now.  I have to say that I am enjoying Myfitnesspal so far, it is similar to Weight Watchers but tracks calories instead of points.  I had success on Weight Watchers Online in the past, but Myfitnesspal, is free and I have the app on my iPhone and iPad.  I am starting to see results and some of my friends and I are linked together so we can see each others progress.  It makes it a little competition for us all.

I am also purchasing a Sosche Rhythm heart rate monitor to more accurately track my fitness progress and calories burned during exercise.  A friend and one of my players has turned me onto the Rhythm and Myfitnesspal.  I look forward to seeing how it helps with my fitness goals.

DCC RPG Patron Template

Rather short post, DCC RPG has a few patrons in the book, there is also the Angels, Daemons, and Beings Between. Sometimes your players throw you a curve and you are forced to make your own.  Well here is a Google document I have been working on.  I have been unable to convert the Patron Template I am developing into a fillable form PDF that I am happy with.  So I am just going to post the document.

Adventurer Fitness Module 1

Well here is a quick entry.  Wednesday of last week I went to drop a sports bra off to my fiance before she ran this 3.65 mile race that is put on by a local Athletic club. On a whim I decided what the hell I am going to try and do this.  I had little training but I new worst case scenario I could walk the distance.  Well I loaded up my Camelback (water, phone, money for a cab if I decided to cheat), and headed out to meet her.  Well I jogged and walked my way around the 3.65 mile course.  Well 52 minutes later, a lot of sweat, no tears, and some sore legs I finished.  I was second to last, and when I heard the cowbell ringing, and the crowd cheering I kicked up the pace and finished strong.

What did I take from this first real fitness challenge/encounter:  RUNNING SUCKS!!!!  That being said, I did it and I was happy to have completed it.  I will run one again as it is a summer racing series.  I have been hitting the gym regularly, after a few days off to let my legs heal.  My legs were so soar I wouldn't even let the cleric lay hands, their touch would hurt too much.

Freeport revised

As I mentioned in my campaign reboot post, I am making some changes to the wide open setting of Freeport City of Adventure by Green Ronin Publishing. The author says throughout the book make the changes so Freeport fits your needs or setting.  So now I begin that task, combined with melding in some of the steampunk elements of Iron Kingdoms by Privateer Press, while using the Dungeon Crawl Classic RPG system by Goodman Games. No problem....what could go wrong.

First off goblins and orcs as occupants of the city, sorry not going to happen, not on my watch.  I really like that for the flavor of Freeport as written but for me personally I just don't like it in my game. Orcs and goblins are suppose to make your heart sink in your chest when you see them descending on your city, not be there as near slave labor for dangerous experiments.  They are possibly going to be replaced by Trolkin from the IK setting who inhabit the jungles on the island. It will be fun making them into a DCC class.

Next no gnomes even though I plan to use other classes from CRAWL (published by +Dak Ultimak ).

Next elves are not going to be a playable race, at least for the time being. In my setting they are going to be the kind of jerks you expect thousand year old beings to be.

Halflings are more criminal then just curious in my setting. If one of them has a shiny bauble that belongs to you in their hands it isn't curiosity that made them steal it was greed. You may also now have a dagger in your back. The saying, "Trust a halfling? Ha maybe as far as I can throw one!" is commonly heard throughout my Freeport.

The dwarves are generally the same but they also tend to have an engineering or bureaucratic feel to them as well. The dwarves run the mines on the north end of the island, and are starting to usher in the steam age, with the formation of the Dwarven League.

These are most of the major changes I have planned so far.

Campaign Freeport reboot

I have decided to switch my regular campaign that I run from Pathfinder to DCC RPG.  The group had a good time with DCC when we did a funnel for fun.  I love the system, and had quickly grown tired of Pathfinder 3.X style of play.

As I have been searching for a new campaign concept and in the midst of a lull from regular campaign play (due to player illness and scheduling conflicts), I have been filling my geek needs elsewhere.  I started playing Warmachine/Hordes again, and remembered the things I really loved about that setting.  About the same time I was having my Warmachine/Hordes resurgence, I also received my Freeport City of Adventure book and PDFs.  I was never a Freeporter before this I had heard only great things about it, but when I read it I really fell in love with it.

I have decided that I am going to make a fusion of the two.  I am going to start with a modified version of Freeport (sorry I don't like Orcs having civil or semi-civil relations with humans/demi-humans) and slowly work in the steampunk feel of the Iron Kingdoms.  I am going to leave it open to my players to choose whether it is high seas pirate adventure, urban exploration, or island hoping dungeon exploration.

So it begins

The first post......what to say.....hmmmmm.

Well for starters I am going to be blogging about my varying geekish interests.  It will primarily focus on RPGs and my experiences building my campaign world, and running public games.  I will cover my passion of miniatures wargaming, and my other related hobbies.  I will keep a log of my fitness pursuits, as I try to turn this pudgy zero level gongfarmer into a tenth level warrior dropping mighty deeds left and right.  You got to be in shape to swing that long sword.

I am not going to ramble on further as I will do a lot of that over the coarse of this blog. So till next time, well meet and good journeys.
